Candidate Statement

Ogden Valley—an amazing, unique high-mountain valley community, established by strong, resourceful, and hardworking individuals who came to sink new roots into its rich, fertile soil and to embrace its bountiful water sources, wide open spaces, plentiful wildlife, and unbounded beauty. The legacy these early settlers left still endures among her people and the culture of this amazing place. Those who visit are often caught in its spell—not just the charm of its spectacular beauty, but also the kindness and goodness of the folks who live here. The deep generational “Valley Way” ingrained within her people is a no-nonsense common sense, and the unquestioned value of hard work; perseverance; integrity; honesty; neighborliness and a “go & getter-done” attitude.

A five-generation descendant of OV pioneers, I’m blessed to have various ancestors who were founding settles of all three of our Valley’s core communities—Huntsville, Liberty, and Eden. Together, with those more recently arrived, we’re all pioneers in our effort to “stand up” a new city! Having voted to incorporate, we now have the opportunity to shape our future directly, working from a rich and rock-solid foundation. We’ve got this!

I’ve been blessed to serve and volunteer on behalf of OV for over 30 years. This has included attending and contributing to meetings, reaching out to agencies and elected officials, investigating and addressing questions and concerns from valley-wide friends & neighbors, and providing feedback to county, state, and federal agencies on important decisions relevant to OV. Through the years, I’ve worked directly with Weber County, the U.S. Forest Service, Weber-Morgan Health Depart., Dept. of Ag., UDOT, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), BLM, Bureau of Reclamation, DNR, DWR, U.S. and State representatives, the Lt. Governor’s Office, W.C. Sheriff’s Office, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District, Army Corp of Engineers, Weber School District and many more county, state and federal agencies and groups.

Whether serving as one of the six sponsors of the incorporation effort to become a new city, concerns over planning & zoning issues, noxious weed infestations, a giant boulder the size of a Volkswagen Beetle ready to fall from the mountainside onto a car on the N. Ogden Divide, the installation of guardrails near Pineview’s spillway, threatened wetlands, water plans to be completed for Huntsville’s water districts, heading off threats to our watershed, needs for riverbank restoration efforts, illegal trail building on Forest Service property, Weber School Dist. decisions, Weber Basin Water Conservancy District water issues, or a myriad of other challenges facing our Valley home, I’ve been there representing the community on literally hundreds of issues. Why? Because I LOVE OGDEN VALLEY and her people!

As your mayor, I’ll continue to work on your behalf to ensure the health of this remarkable mountain valley, balancing the rights of all residents in the midst of unprecedented growth pressures impacting the state, county, and our high-mountain home and her critical natural resources. I look forward to using my education, skills, experience and broad-based knowledge and professional networks to represent and support all residents.

Please reach out for more information or to share your concerns. I look forward to hearing from you and serving as your mayor!
